Hi Lissa,
Once again, I’m in awe in the work you and Scott do. You are amazing and I’m so proud of what you do. Here’s a donation to help board "Beck" the dog for awhile. I wish I could adopt him but our dog "Snowball" keeps us pretty busy. I hope you and Scott are well.
Love you,
Bridgid Beck of Claremont, CA. September, 2001

Dear Folks,
What a beautiful story, it truly is a miracle for Beck. Please accept my check to help Beck. Keep up the great work-you have my admiration.
Warm Regards,
Deborah of Boca Raton, FL. May 21, 2002

Dear Melissa:
I have the utmost respect for vegetarians. I certainly like your recommendation that people consider whether or not they wish to be a vegetarian. As for myself, personally, I find myself eating less meat; at least, that’s a step forward. Thanks for writing.
Yours sincerely,

Praises from the Be A Pet Advocate program...

Hi Melissa, How are you? Thank you once again for the food you and your husband brought. Baby is doing very well. She's adjusted completely. She follows me everywhere I go even if its to the kitchen or living room...etc. We get along like we have been together for years. It's amazing. She's a very loving dog. Well I was writing to let you know that I just received the package you sent for her, it's awesome. Thank you. My baby brother says that he is going to take her for a walk now that she's got a leash. They get along well, also. Once again, thank you, I really appreciate all you have done for her and for helping me with being able to keep her.
Sincerely,
Maureen. June 24, 2003

Dear Melissa, Again, much appreciation for your thoughtfulness and caring.
Bobbi of Boca Raton, FL. June 2003

I have been sitting at my desk crying ever since I read this message. Not more than five minutes ago I went to the bathroom (where I do all my praying) and prayed for help in my life. I was only at my desk a few minutes when your e-mail came through. When I e-mailed you, I truly thought you meant $20 or so. I had no idea you would help to such a degree. I am truly overcome, both by your generosity and the Lord's way of working miracles.

Melissa, just want to let you know your check arrived. Bear is scheduled for his neuter next week. His Foster Mom says he is a wonderful dog. Sweet tempered, good with her old dog, affectionate, completely house trained. He is spending almost all the time in the house with her now. Thank You so much for sponsoring Bear! I'll keep you posted on how he is doing and when he is adopted.
Thank You,
Debbie. June 26, 2003

Happy Endings for our Rescues...

Mowgli Mowgli
Mowgli is a beautiful boy found wandering on the not-so-friendly streets of Miami before we got him. With the loving open arms of our foster mom, Jill, and our friends at Raining Cats and Dogs, Mowgli made his way into a loving home with friends of ours in Boca Raton, FL. Thank you to the Reid Family who saw what we saw in this wonderful dog!

Wiley Wiley
The "little" guy, he weighed in at 65pounds at the vet, is happy as a clam and we're having a ball with him. He certainly keeps us laughing. Wiley always sleeps in bed at night with Rick, girl kitty and myself so you can only imagine how crowed it gets. Every night it's like a race to see who gets into bed first because if you're the last one in you're not likely to get much space for the night!! We couldn't be happier with Wiley, he's got such a great disposition and he's just so full of energy. We're hoping to buy a house after we get married in February so he'll be able to have a yard to play in and we'll probably get a second dog so he'll have a full time playmate.

Missy Missy
I just wanted to fill you on on how Missy is doing........wonderful!!!! She is a fantastic dog and we could not be happier with her. She is slowly adjusting as I know it will take some time, but she likes her new dog bone shaped bed and she is great with the kids. I think they may be a bit much for her, but Missy and the girls are gentle with each other. Thanks for such a wonderful dog!!!

Sam Sam
Hello again! I wondered about you (and "Animal Matters") recently. Hope you survived the storms as well. Sam is still a cutie! He still loves the backyard (and chasing squirrels). He still likes his walks & any kind of treats. I did change his food as he wasn't eating much of the Iams for a bit. I (slowly) switched to Science Diet & he seems to love it. The vet tells me to watch his weight but else he's a very healthy dog! I had him "tagged" or "chipped" too. As for the storms, he did OK. Even when we evacuated to a hotel in Kissimmee, FL. He did pretty good in the hotel room but did like to bark if people got too close to the door. Little protector he is! He's not crazy about thunder but what dog is? He still is "Mr Affection". He loves being pet & still gives tons of kisses. If I have to travel for my work (which is rarely), I have a woman come in to feed/walk him. She calls him "her sweetie dog". He is that - a sweetie! Even my Dad (not known to be a pet lover) is sweet on him. He & his wife call Sam "the grand dog". How are you doing?

Missy Max
Just writing to let you know that Max is doing great in his new home! He follows us everywhere; he even tried to jump in the hot tub but we got him out before he got totally wet. He loves to play tug, fetch, chase and sleep in our bed. He's really smart and has already learned his boundaries on the invisible fence and hasn't had any accidents in the house. The only thing we have to be careful about is making sure our other dogs don't go near him when he eats, he also refuses to share his chew bones. We are really glad that we adopted Max and thank you for taking good care of him while he was waiting for his new family.
Sincerely,
Cindy Meka-Symolon, July 2004

Penny Penny
Penny is doing great. I love her to pieces.
Thanks,

Missy Rock-It
Hello you guys.
Just thought I would let you know that today (or close to it) is our 1 year anniversary with Rock-It (Rah Rah). Last year we were on a boat at the Air Show and had to leave early to meet Rock-It. The picture we still have on our refrigerator (Rhoda, I think you took that for us) shows all of us with Rock-It in the pool (after the cat chase). Today, Rock-It got a bath (along with Brett-girl) and we sang Happy Birthday with ice cream after dinner. He is such a love. Is doing much better with people outside the family. He is doing a little better with the cats. It just takes time. I wish you could see him - one of your success stories. Anyway, just thought you would like an update.
Thanks again.

Mowgley Mowgley
Hi Melissa,
Mowgley is doing fine. He's very picky when it comes to eating so he really eats in the evening. As for him and Milie they are so close. They spent most of the time playing. Mowgley lets her in his cage and sort of protects her when they make me bad b'cause they've done something wrong. For the most part, he is the quiet one. He still likes to get on the couch. Millie on the other hand grabs his tail, bites his ear, hop/jumps on his back, etc. and he doesn't even think of hurting her. It's actually cute. She imitates everything he does, that is actually very funny (sometimes). Oh, he’s terrified of sprinklers or water!!!!! to the point where he will not walk on the same side of sidewalk. I actually have to cross the street and go around. Today, on my way back home, after the morning walk, he saw our sprinklers and literally plopped himself in the middle of the street. I had to show him we were going to walk around on to the outer sidewalk and on to the front of the house.
Well, that's all for now, everything else is good. Thank you so much.

Hello!
My apologies. I had a note to myself to email a note on Sunday. Sunday came & went, Wednesday came & went... and I still didn't get an email sent! Sorry about that!! Sam's doing really well (I think). He is able to stay outside the crate at nights. No incidents occur as long as I leave the bathroom door shut (he likes to chew the paper in the garbage up). I have started to let him out during part of the work day. I come home for lunch most of the last 2 weeks... especially now that I crate him in the afternoons. He goes on a leash quite well & loves going in the car. I think the care/training that he got previously has really paid off for me! The first few days he didn't really eat except for the "treats" I gave him. However, he has come around. I've been able to slowly move him over to Iams - about 1+ cup a day. He still prefers the treats :D He really, really loves the pig ears & it keeps him busy for a while. As for toys, he likes the ones made from tennis ball material. I also have a few "Kong" type toys. I stuff it with treats & peanut butter. I bought one stuffed animal - cookie monster. He likes to carry it around & attempt to tear it apart - although its held together quite well! I'm sewing the other one up as it had pretty much lost all of its stuffing! We do at least 2 walks a day - morning & evening. He still really doesn't like cats. He seems to like some dogs & not as much others. He also (last 2 days) been going after large trucks that come by! He's Ok with some cars. I'm checking out 2 classes for training - to see which one seems to be better. One is tonight & one is next Wednesday. I wanted to have him a few weeks before starting a class (considering it will be with 8-9 other dogs). I still am trying to treat him when other dogs come by (so he doesn't fixate & have a good association with other dogs) but it will take some time. He's still really affectionate. He ALWAYs wants to be petted. I do indulge him but he would take it all day long if I could do it! :D Well, he's giving me a hint. I think it's time for a walk. I'll email more later. Let me know if I missed anything or if you have any questions. Thanks for the catalogue/company/info - I have really appreciated it!
P.S. I hope to get some pictures back this week of him. I'll email them.
Thanks again,
Sandi. October 2002

Bluff Bluff Bluff Bluff
Bluff (Surprize) is lying here, vertically, along side me in the bed with his head on my chest. Does that explain how glad I am to have met you? Thank you for your helping us guide my parents into a new best friend. You, too, will have a special place in heaven!!!

Red Red
Just wanted to let you know that Red (a/k/a Sweet Pea) is doing fine. He has not given me one minute of trouble, and he is very protective of me. He has gained a little too much weight, so...he's walking a mile with me each evening (when it's not raining). He is such a wonderful, lovable dog. My entire family, including my ex husband, love him. They spoil him rotten. My Mom is in a nursing home, and she asks me every time I visit why I don't bring Red. Pets are allowed at any time, so the next time I go up, I will take Red by to visit. I too think of you and the wonderful job you (and all the people at Animal Matters) are doing, and so wish I could take another dog.
